The performance is supposed to be the icing not the cake. It's not musically groundbreaking.īey has a great career and she's great onstage but "the greats" are people who Slay you sight unseen. And keeping an eye on trends and trying to do it first is not creating a trend. NOBODY who graced that list especially for an extended period of time was following a trend. Focusinf so heavily on visuals and tricks has come back to bite. If you watch the video it becomes clear: following trends and not putting enough effort into her music has come back to bite. Then I have other favorites, but I'll listen to DC before solo Bey and when I get to solo Bey 95% of the time it's 4 and previous. Think about it: if Bey didn't come.on black radio nobody but the Hive would be listening to her on a weekly basis.any day of the week i might listnen to MJ or Janet or Whitney or Mariah. Whitney was making R&B too even though people try to front like she wasn't.īey never did well enough in her genre to cross love plain and simple. It's not an "everybody else" every genre rock, country, R&B are genres.unless you're making straight pop music by the POP music formula (and every genre has a basic musical formula) the only way into the pop genre is to Excell so well in YOUR genre that it crosses.
